Cory M. Norpel has been the Operations Director at Chastain Wealth Management for three years. Cory plays a vital role in our boutique firm. Because Chastain chooses to work with only a small number of qualified clients, Cory knows every client and business partner by face and by voice. This ensures two things, that our clients receive exemplary customer service and that Chastain protects their assets. Cory is responsible for the IT at Chastain, assists the firm with compliance, runs the firm’s client events, negotiates vendor contracts, and a host of other things that make our firm one of the best in Atlanta.. Cory is an expert in money movement, operations, and technology but she is a true people person, whose favorite part of her day is working with the firm’s clients. In 2012, Cory graduated cum laude from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. Upon graduating, Cory served as editor, interviewing nonprofit CEOs for Frontdoors News. Cory is originally from Mesa, Arizona. When she isn’t at the office, she enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, crocheting and spending time with her son Jack and husband Kenny, a senior manager at Cox Communications.

David E. Barfield, CFP® is an Associate Wealth Manager at Chastain Wealth. David has over 20 years of experience in technology and financial services, most recently at Fiserv, a Fortune 500 Company.
David led various teams responsible for building solutions in investment services and other financial products at Fiserv but has always had a passion for helping others achieve their financial and life goals.
With encouragement from his parents, David began investing in the stock market while still in high school, just prior to the 1987 “Black Monday” crash. Despite experiencing the ups and downs of the markets through the ’87 crash, the “Tech Bubble,” and the “Financial Crisis,” David and his wife, Robin, stayed the course by dollar-cost averaging into a diversified portfolio of low-cost mutual funds and ETF’s. David made some early mistakes chasing the hot tech stocks of the day back in the nineties, but the lessons he learned in the subsequent bursting of the dotcom bubble were invaluable in forming his views on diversification across multiple asset classes and geographic regions and value investing. By applying those fundamental principles of personal finance that he learned from his parents, David and Robin were able to reach financial independence while still young enough to pursue bigger and more personally satisfying dreams.
For David, that dream was to pursue his career calling in Financial Planning and to spend the rest of his life helping others achieve financial freedom. David has witnessed many colleagues, friends, and family members make emotional decisions with their life savings during times of market turmoil, and his deepest desire is to help families avoid those costly mistakes that lead to financial ruin and make sound financial decisions leading to security and long-term, sustainable wealth.
David has a degree in Finance from the University of Georgia and is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors and the Financial Planning Association.
David and Robin are active members of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock. They are both health and fitness fanatics and live in the Hickory Flat area of Canton. They enjoy socializing with neighbors in their tight-knit community and spending a few weeks a year splashing around in the warm waters of Turks and Caicos, Grand Cayman, and the Virgin Islands. They have one son, Daryl, who is a business owner and is well on his way to the third consecutive generation in their family to achieve financial independence from scratch.
